The Magnificent Middle Child

2 weeks ago our second beautiful little daughter was born. Life is going great the adjustment for me has been pretty seamless. However; I can't say the same for my sweet little boy, now our middle child. He is adjusting. But the transition has been more challenging for him than I imagined. He has been testing me in every way. And I have been reluctant to discipline or engage him because I feel so bad for him in his new station in life. Yesterday I was reading The Word of God and opened to Proverbs 13.

The first verse is:
1
A wise son heeds his father's instruction,
but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.

then further in the Proverb it says:

24
He who spares the rod hates his son,
but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

A good reminder of what I am here to do for my children. I am diligently praying over my son that he will heed the words of his parents and not be a mocker. And I have committed myself to discipline even when it is not easy and I will try diligently to be consistent.

I love this boy so much I want to raise him in a way that will be pleasing to The Lord and others can tolerate him!

I think it's really beautiful that you are so aware of what's going on with your son and that you're sensitive to his new situation. May God continue to give you insight and grace as you discipline and raise a wonderful young man!

Maybe consider that when a bunch of old Jewish guys wrote the Bible, they didn't really know or care much about parenting.

Te trick is to discipline him like you normally would, but add in an extra dash of understanding because of what he's going through. You can be sympathetic and consistent.

Anyway, this may have already worked itself out. You should keep up your blog though.
